A drunk resident of the Ternopil region stole two cars and caused a traffic accident within 24 hours
Law enforcement officers in the Ternopil region detained a 42-year-old resident of the village of Horodnytsia who stole two cars and caused an accident within a 24-hour period. The man was intoxicated.
First, the suspect stole an unlocked Opel Vectra with the keys in the ignition and drove to the village of Postolivka, where the car broke down and began to smoke. Leaving the car behind, he got into another unlocked vehicle—a VAZ 2115—a few hundred meters away. Driving it toward Terebovlia, he collided with another car and veered into a ditch. No one was injured in the accident, but the suspect was unable to explain the purpose of his trip.
The suspect had a prior conviction for theft. He was charged under Part 2 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (repeated unlawful seizure of a vehicle), which carries a sentence of up to 8 years in prison, and an administrative report was also filed for causing the traffic accident.

Earlier, a community head in Donetsk Oblast died in a traffic accident.
As a reminder, the Pryluky City and District Court in Chernihiv Oblast sentenced a former police officer to eight years in prison for a fatal traffic accident that resulted in the death of a six-year-old child.
