Poland has suspended the transfer of MiG-29s because it first wants to obtain drone technology
Poland has temporarily suspended the transfer of remaining MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, as Warsaw expects Kyiv to fulfill bilateral agreements on the transfer of drone manufacturing technology. The Polish side is actively developing its own capabilities in the field of drones and is interested in accessing Ukrainian know-how, after which it promises to transfer the aircraft.
This was stated by Poland’s Deputy Minister of National Defense, Cezary Tomczyk. He explained that these Soviet-era fighters will soon be permanently withdrawn from the Polish Air Force, as the country is modernizing its fleet with Western-made FA-50, F-16, and F-35 aircraft.
The previous Polish government transferred the last batch of aircraft to date, and in December of last year, new negotiations began regarding the transfer of up to nine additional MiG-29s, which are nearing the end of their service life.
This was reported by Rzeczpospolita.
Polish President Karol Nawrocki confirmed the possibility of exchanging MiG-29 fighters for Ukrainian anti-drone technologies.
Poland plans to transfer up to nine of its MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine as part of its support for Kyiv to defend against a full-scale Russian invasion.
