The U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine is stepping down due to disagreements with Trump's policies

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Julie Davis has decided to step down from her post and end her diplomatic career after more than 30 years of service. The main reason for this decision was her disappointment with the lack of support for Kyiv from President Donald Trump’s administration and his personnel policies. 

This was reported by the Financial Times, citing its own informed sources.

Davis has led the U.S. diplomatic mission in Kyiv since May of last year, succeeding Bridget Brink in the role. Notably, her predecessor also resigned in April 2025 due to similar disagreements with Washington’s political course. According to journalists, the ambassador has already officially notified the State Department of her intention to resign.

The conflict of views between career diplomats and the White House has intensified against the backdrop of Russia’s ongoing aggression and shifts in U.S. foreign policy priorities. Davis was critical of Trump’s position regarding the scope and nature of aid to Ukraine, which made her continued tenure in the post untenable. It is currently unknown who will become the next U.S. representative in Ukraine and how this change will affect future cooperation between the two countries.

Prior to Julie Davis, the U.S. diplomatic mission in Ukraine had been led since June 2022 by Ambassador Bridget Brink, who was appointed during Joe Biden’s term. The reason for her resignation was also the intensification of political disagreements with President Donald Trump’s administration. It was reported that Brink faced pressure from high-ranking officials who questioned her willingness to support their strategy regarding Ukraine. It was also noted that she had a strained relationship with Ukrainian officials due to her critical stance on corruption in Ukraine.
