American actress Angelina Jolie, who visited Ukraine in the fall of 2025, did not choose Kherson for her visit by chance. British photographer and humanitarian activist Giles Dooley spoke about this, explaining that the decision to visit this particular city was a deliberate one and held special significance.

“I met with her in London shortly before her trip, and she asked for my advice on where she should go. She is a true humanitarian. Her sensitivity and compassion for people… She always strives to understand how people live in wartime conditions. That’s why we suggested Kherson to her, since that’s where our ambulances are operating. I knew we could take good care of her there. And it was a place where she would truly understand what life is like for people on the front lines in Ukraine,” said Giles Dooley.
As the photographer noted, Jolie “loves” Ukraine very much. He also expressed confidence that her visit had a positive impact on the morale of Ukrainians, especially the residents of Kherson.
“I received countless messages, including from two soldiers I’ve known for years who are on the front lines—they told me how much it meant to them to see her there, under the anti-drone net, when she truly understood the situation,” the volunteer noted.
