Formula 1 Sensation: Top Drivers to Take a Break Before the Spanish Grand Prix

Several leading Formula 1 drivers, including season leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli and the reigning world champion, will sit out the first free practice session of the Spanish Grand Prix to take a brief break before the main event. Their spots will be temporarily filled by reserve drivers, who will get a chance to prove themselves at the top level of motorsport.

Such substitutions give teams the opportunity to test new car setups while allowing the main drivers to rest a bit before the intense race weekend in Barcelona.

In the first free practice session of the Spanish Grand Prix, three top teams decided to make lineup changes. Mercedes driver Andrea Cimi Antonelli will not participate in the session, and his car will be handed over to reserve driver Frederik Vesti. At McLaren, Leonardo Fornaroli will take the wheel in place of reigning champion Lando Norris, while at Williams, Luke Browning will test Alex Albon’s car.

The Mercedes team explained this decision not only as an opportunity for the drivers to rest but also as part of the car’s development process. Team principal Toto Wolff emphasized that such sessions are important for collecting data and testing the car under real-world conditions. “Fred plays an important role in our car development work and helps us better understand how to unlock the car’s potential,” said Wolff.

After the Monaco Grand Prix, Antonelli leads the overall standings with 156 points. He is followed by Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari and George Russell, who drives for Mercedes. The battle in the team standings remains intense as well: Mercedes leads with 244 points, ahead of Ferrari and McLaren, who are trying to close the gap.

Despite changes to the schedule, the Spanish Grand Prix itself will take place as planned—from June 12 to 14 at the Circuit de Catalunya-Montmeló in Barcelona. The teams are already gearing up for a fierce battle, as every race is now critical in the championship race. Last year, McLaren driver Oscar Piastri won in Spain, and this time a no less intense battle for the podium is expected. This is reported by the championship’s official website.

Trabzonspor has set its sightson Dynamo’s talent Mykhailo Mykhailov.

As a reminder, the UAF is resuming the U21 national championship in Ukraine.

The Turkish powerhouse is also pursuing Dynamo’s leader.
