The U.S. has extended restrictions on Russian ships in its ports for another year

The United States has extended for one year the state of emergency that imposes restrictions on the berthing and movement of vessels linked to Russia in U.S. ports.

This is stated in a White House announcement published in the Federal Register.

The state of emergency was declared on April 21, 2022, by then-President Joe Biden. It granted the Department of Homeland Security the authority to regulate the movement and docking of vessels with ties to the Russian Federation.

The White House emphasized that the Russian government’s policies and actions “continue to create a state of emergency” due to the threat to U.S. international relations.

In accordance with the Emergency Powers Act, President Donald Trump extended the regime for another year, along with the associated restrictions on Russian shipping in U.S. ports.

Earlier, the tanker Deyna, which is linked to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” left French territorial waters after paying a fine.

Tankers and cargo ships continue to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, despite statements about a “blockade” by the U.S. Analysts have recorded dozens of passages in the first few days since its implementation. Some of the vessels are subject to sanctions, while others have already departed from Iranian ports. The data also shows discrepancies with official statements from the U.S. military.
