U.S. Urges Lebanon to Disarm Hezbollah Amid Rising Tensions

U.S. Middle East envoy Megan O’Sullivan urged Lebanon’s government to take concrete steps toward disarming Hezbollah, warning that continued attacks along the Israeli border could trigger a wider regional conflict. The visit came amid an escalation of rocket fire and airstrikes in southern Lebanon.

Washington emphasized that Hezbollah’s military presence, backed by Iran, undermines Lebanese sovereignty and risks destabilizing the entire region. U.S. officials called for the full implementation of U.N. resolutions that demand Hezbollah’s withdrawal and disarmament.

Lebanese officials pushed back, saying the pressure from Washington comes at a politically fragile time. Meanwhile, Israeli forces have intensified strikes along the border, further heightening tensions and complicating any diplomatic solution.
