A court in Lviv has begun hearing the case regarding the murder of Andriy Parubiy
A preliminary hearing has begun at the Frankivsk District Court in Lviv in the case of the murder of Andriy Parubiy, a member of parliament and former speaker of the Verkhovna Rada. The former speaker was killed on August 30, 2025, in Lviv.
As is known, Andriy Parubiy was killed on August 30, 2025, in Lviv near the house where he lived. A man disguised as a courier approached the politician and fired eight shots from a pistol from a distance of several meters. Andriy Parubiy died at the scene. The shooter fled the scene of the crime and attempted to go into hiding, but on the night of September 1, he was apprehended in the Khmelnytskyi region.
The investigation established that the 53-year-old Lviv resident was acting as an agent of Russian intelligence services. Since 2024, he had been passing information to the enemy about Ukrainian Armed Forces units in Lviv, and later proposed Andriy Parubiy as a target for assassination.
“Following instructions from his handler in Russia, he obtained a Makarov pistol with ammunition, monitored the politician, and planned his escape. After the crime, he attempted to destroy evidence, but law enforcement later discovered the weapon with a silencer in the forest. Forensic examinations confirmed his involvement in the murder,” the statement reads.
In mid-December of last year, investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine gathered new evidence in the case of the murder of People’s Deputy and former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy. The SBU found the pistol used to kill the politician.
It was previously reported that the investigation into the murder of Ukrainian MP and former Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Parubiy has been completed. An indictment against the 53-year-old suspect has been sent to court.
The suspect is charged with treason, an attempt on the life of a public figure committed in connection with his public and civic activities, carried out by a group of individuals acting in concert, public calls for the violent overthrow of the constitutional order using the media, illegal handling of weapons by a group of persons acting in prior conspiracy, as well as glorification of the Russian Federation’s aggression (Part 3 of Article 109; Part 2 of Article 111; Part 2 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 28 of Article 112; Part 2 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 263; Parts 1 and 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The SBU has referred the case of Andriy Parubiy’s murder to court.
As a reminder, on August 30, 2025, the National Police reported that Andriy Parubiy, a prominent Ukrainian public and political figure, had been killed in Lviv.
