Holiday on July 7: Ukraine Celebrates Nature Conservation Workers' Day

On July 7, Ukraine celebrates Nature Conservation Workers’ Day—a professional holiday for people who have dedicated their lives to nature conservation. They are the ones who work to preserve nature reserves, national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, and other unique areas that are home to rare species of plants and animals.

Thanks to their daily work, Ukrainians are able to enjoy picturesque forests, steppes, mountain landscapes, and pristine bodies of water. In addition, conservationists conduct scientific research, work to restore ecosystems, and promote a respectful attitude toward the environment.

History of the Holiday

Nature Conservation Workers’ Day was established by a decree of the President of Ukraine in 2009. Its purpose is to honor those who work to preserve the country’s natural heritage and to draw public attention to the importance of environmental protection.

The date of the celebration was not chosen at random. It was on July 7, 1992, that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law of Ukraine “On the Nature Reserve Fund of Ukraine,” which established the legal framework for the creation and operation of nature conservation areas.

Why This Holiday Is Important

Nature conservation professionals carry out an extremely important mission. They protect areas of exceptional natural, scientific, and historical value, monitor the condition of ecosystems, safeguard rare species of flora and fauna, and conduct environmental education. Their work helps preserve Ukraine’s biodiversity and maintain the natural balance.

In recent years, this profession has become even more important, as many protected areas have suffered significant damage due to the full-scale war, including fires, pollution, and landmines. Once hostilities end, it will be nature conservation specialists who will play a key role in restoring Ukraine’s natural environment.

How Everyone Can Help Nature

Anyone can contribute to environmental conservation. All it takes is following a few simple rules:

  • Do not leave trash behind after spending time in nature, and behave responsibly in nature reserves and national parks;
  • sort your waste, use natural resources sparingly, and support environmental initiatives in your community.

Even small daily actions can make a significant contribution to preserving Ukraine’s natural heritage.

Congratulations on Nature Conservation Workers’ Day

On Nature Conservation Workers’ Day, we express our sincere gratitude to everyone who works every day to protect Ukraine’s natural environment. We wish you good health, peace, professional success, inspiration, and new achievements. May your work yield significant results, and may Ukraine’s natural riches be preserved and multiplied for future generations.
