The EU's trade deficit with China has reached a record €360 billion

The European Union recorded its largest-ever trade deficit with China, amounting to 360 billion euros, at the end of 2025, marking the first time that every single member state of the bloc had a negative trade balance with Beijing.

The issue of these global economic imbalances and excess production capacity will be one of the key topics during the G7 leaders’ meeting. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made this statement ahead of the G7 summit in Evian.

According to her, this model is not sustainable, so Brussels is continuing its policy of risk mitigation without severing ties with China. To this end, the European Union plans to protect the internal market from unfair competition, expand its own production capacity, and diversify supply chains through new free trade agreements. The head of the European Commission added that the G7 countries share a common vision regarding the need to coordinate actions on these economic issues.

U.S. President Donald Trump warned France about the risks of starting a new trade war and threatened to impose 100% tariffs on all imports of French wines and champagne. The American leader called this move the only option if Paris refuses to repeal its digital tax, which directly affects the interests of leading U.S. tech giants.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian delegation will depart for the G7 summit in France from Chisinau Airport.
