Trump announced the release by Iran of a U.S. citizen who had been unlawfully detained
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran had released an American woman whom, according to him, had been unlawfully detained since December 2024. The president announced this on July 15 on the social media platform Truth Social.
According to Trump, Tehran allowed the U.S. citizen to leave the country. He noted that the woman is safe outside of Iran and is doing well.
The U.S. president thanked the Iranian side for this move, calling it a “gesture of goodwill.”
“The United States of America appreciates this gesture of goodwill on the part of Iran,” Trump emphasized, without providing any specific details regarding her release.

At the same time, Trump did not provide any details regarding the circumstances of the American woman’s release or any possible agreements between Washington and Tehran.
