Trump is considering the possibility of the U.S. withdrawing from NATO over the operation against Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump is seriously considering the possibility of the United States withdrawing from NATO. According to him, this is because the Alliance did not join the U.S. operation against Iran.
Trump made this statement in an interview with The Telegraph.
“I always knew that they (NATO – Ed.) were a paper tiger, and Putin, by the way, knows this too,” said the U.S. leader.
Trump emphasized that the United States has always supported NATO, particularly in the war against Russia in Ukraine.
“We helped them without hesitation, including Ukraine. Ukraine wasn’t our problem. It was a test, and we stood by them, and we would always stand by them. But they didn’t stand by us,” he explained.
According to the publication, sources close to the president reported that Trump is also considering the possibility of withdrawing American troops from Germany—a move he has been contemplating since returning to office last year.
As a reminder, two-thirds of U.S. citizens believe that the war against Iran should be ended as soon as possible, even if the goals set by the Donald Trump administration are not achieved.
