Italy and the US are at odds again, this time over a photo of Trump with Meloni
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni allegedly insisted on taking a photo with him and having a private conversation.
“She begged me to take a photo with her. She really wanted it. I wasn’t even going to agree, but I felt sorry for her,” Trump said.
In response, Meloni called the U.S. president’s remarks completely fabricated and emphasized that Italy does not seek favor from anyone.
“Donald Trump’s statements are completely fabricated. I don’t understand why the U.S. president behaves this way toward his allies. But he must remember one thing: Italy and I never beg,” the Italian prime minister said.
Meloni also criticized Trump for what she sees as his use of much harsher rhetoric toward allies than toward the West’s adversaries.
