A court in Brussels found Viktor Labin, a citizen of Belgium and Russia, guilty of illegally exporting dual-use goods and chemical components to Russia and sentenced him to five years in prison.

The investigation established that Labin played a key role in a scheme to supply over 400 tons of goods to Russia, including detonators and dual-use chemicals, specifically yttrium oxide.

According to the court, the shipments were routed through third countries—Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan—and customs documents were forged to conceal the true destination.

The defendant’s son, Ruslan Labin, was also convicted in absentia. He was sentenced to six years in prison, and an international arrest warrant was issued for his role in organizing the shipments.

The defense insists that the export of these chemicals was not illegal and attributes the severity of the sentence to the defendant’s Russian origin.
