The U.S. will attempt to resume peace talks between Ukraine and Russia
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that efforts toward peace talks between Ukraine and Russia could resume in the coming weeks. At the same time, he emphasized that the success of the dialogue depends on the parties’ willingness to bridge their fundamental differences.
According to him, the U.S. plans to assess in the near future the possibility of the parties returning to the negotiation process, which could help bring an end to the war.
“In the coming weeks, certain efforts will be made to determine whether we can resume negotiations between Russia and Ukraine and bring this war to an end,” the U.S. Secretary of State said.
At the same time, Rubio acknowledged that reaching a compromise will be extremely difficult, as both Kyiv and Moscow have their own fundamental demands.
“Both sides have fairly strict ‘red lines,’ and until we manage to bring these ‘red lines’ even slightly closer together, we will not achieve the desired result,” he noted.
Nevertheless, according to the head of U.S. diplomacy, Washington is ready to seize any opportunity to advance the peace process and will support all realistic initiatives that could help resume negotiations.
Rubio made these remarks in an interview with Fox News.
As a reminder, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner may visit Kyiv in the second half of August. According to media reports, the visit could coincide with events marking Ukraine’s Independence Day.
If the visit takes place, it could become one of the most important diplomatic engagements between Ukraine and representatives of the new U.S. administration on the eve of Ukraine’s Independence Day. This was reported by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Washington correspondent Alex Raufoglu, citing two sources familiar with the plans for the visit.
U.S. Special Presidential Representative Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, have agreed to travel to Kyiv. The visit could take place within the next two weeks.
