In Leipzig, police are searching the airport grounds following incidents involving drones

Leipzig Airport has stepped up security measures following several incidents involving drones. About 100 police officers are conducting a search along the northern runway.

Law enforcement officers are moving through the area on foot, lined up in a chain, but it is not yet clear what exactly they are trying to find.

An airport spokesperson noted that the northern runway has been closed since 10:00 a.m. due to the search operation. However, this has not affected passenger flights.

This area was already the focus of a search by law enforcement on Thursday.

Earlier, the Saxony State Criminal Police Office reported that the search for a second, as yet unidentified aircraft linked to the incident would continue.

This was reported by NTV.

As a reminder, a drone carrying an explosive device was discovered near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo plane at Leipzig/Halle International Airport. Due to the incident, airport operations were temporarily suspended for several hours.

The Green Party faction in the Bundestag called for a meeting of the German National Security Council in response to the incident involving a drone equipped with explosives at Leipzig/Halle Airport. Politicians view the incident as a serious threat to national security.

The Ukrainian An-124 cargo plane operated by Antonov Airlines, near which a drone carrying explosives was discovered at Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany, was loaded with military ammunition from France for onward transport.

Late Tuesday evening, a quadcopter carrying explosives was discovered on the runway at Leipzig Airport in Germany. One of the runways was temporarily closed, and a bomb disposal robot was deployed to remove the detonator, according to BBC News.

Sebastian Fiedler, a member of the German Social Democratic Party, stated that the government must respond firmly if Russia’s involvement in the incident with the explosive-laden drone at Leipzig Airport is proven.
