In Lithuania, the government will resign on June 25 amid a coalition reshuffle — LRT
On Tuesday in Lithuania, the current government, led by Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė, will officially announce its resignation.
This decision is linked to a major reshuffling of the ruling coalition in parliament, from which representatives of the far-right political party “Zorya Neman” have been completely excluded.
The official adoption of the decision on the Cabinet of Ministers’ resignation is scheduled for the next government meeting.
Starting June 24, the current cabinet, led by Inga Ruginene, will continue to perform its duties solely in an acting capacity.
The final completion of all procedural processes and the transfer of power to the new government is expected on June 25.
The main reason for the political reshuffle in the Baltic country was the Social Democrats’ decision to end their previous cooperation with the populist party “Dawn of the Nemunas.”
The new governing majority is being formed on a different basis, and the leader of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, Mindaugas Sinkevičius, is set to become the new head of government.
The next step in confirming the new government structure will be an official decision by the head of state. President Gitanas Nausėda will have to independently select the candidate for the future prime minister and officially present the nomination to the Seimas for consideration.
After that, the Lithuanian parliament will have exactly one week to hold a vote and approve the new head of government.
