In Volyn, a village council chairman is suspected of illegal logging worth 3 million hryvnias

In Volyn, the head of one of the village councils in the Kovel District was notified of her status as a suspect; she is suspected of abuse of office and facilitating illegal logging.

According to the investigation, the official leased 43 land plots to a businessman, knowing that they were forested, and also issued a certificate that created the appearance of legality for the work.

Between November 2025 and March 2026, more than 4,200 trees were illegally cut down on these plots. Investigators estimate the resulting damages at nearly 3 million hryvnias.

The entrepreneur has also been notified of his status as a suspect in the illegal logging.

The SBU has notified a Russian intelligence officer of his status as a suspect for recruiting teenagers to carry out sabotage operations.

As a reminder, the SBU detained a woman suspected of working for Russian intelligence services.
