A large-scale wildfire broke out in the Main-Kinzig district of the German state of Hesse, engulfing an area of about 55 hectares. About 700 firefighters from Hesse and Bavaria were deployed to extinguish the blaze. Law enforcement officials have not ruled out arson as a possible cause.
To ensure there is enough water to fight the fire, the local utility company urged residents of several towns to temporarily refrain from taking showers, baths, watering gardens, and other water-intensive activities. The following day, August 11, the call for water conservation was lifted.
