An offshore wind farm capable of powering 2.5 million households is being built in Poland

Installation of monopiles for wind turbines has begun in the Baltic Sea as part of one of Poland’s largest energy projects—the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm. Once construction is complete, it will be able to supply electricity to up to 2.5 million households.

This was reported by RMF 24.

The project, being implemented by PGE and Orsted, is of key importance for the country’s energy security and the transformation of Poland’s energy mix.

On Monday in Gdańsk, representatives of PGE and Orsted announced the start of installation of monopiles for the Baltica 2 turbines. A total of 111 foundations will be erected in the Baltic Sea, approximately 40 kilometers from the coast—107 for wind turbines and four for offshore power plants.

Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Henning-Kloska emphasized that the development of offshore wind energy is the foundation of Poland’s new energy mix and a guarantee of energy security and sovereignty.

In the coming months, other infrastructure elements will appear in the Baltic Sea—export cables, offshore power plants, and the wind turbines themselves.

According to the schedule, all work is set to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Once construction is complete, Baltica 2 will become one of the pillars of the Polish energy system. The 1.5 GW wind farm will be able to supply electricity to approximately 2.5 million households.

The first electricity will be fed into the national grid in the first half of 2027, and full commercial commissioning is scheduled for the end of that year.
