Ukraine is sharply increasing its defense spending to tens of billions of dollars
Ukraine allocates approximately $45–50 billion annually to weapons production, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, emphasizing that funding for the military is now consistently secured. According to him, this is not about short-term solutions, but rather a long-term strategy for developing the defense sector and supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy made this statement during a press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, explaining that the country has already reached a level of funding that allows it to simultaneously support the army and scale up its own arms production. “Ukraine is currently allocating $45–50 billion a year to weapons production. We have managed to reach what I consider to be a very high level. We have the funds to finance the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the president said.
He emphasized that this is not only about the current needs of the front lines but also about establishing a long-term model for defense funding, which should ensure stability in the coming years and allow Ukraine to plan the development of arms production more systematically.
Separately, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine aims to reach an “unprecedented level” of domestic arms production, where the national defense sector will play a key role.
Earlier, on April 20, the president reported that approximately $30 billion has been allocated to the defense industry for 2026, while the sector itself has the potential to produce up to $60 billion worth of products. Zelenskyy made this statement at a press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Wednesday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will personally attend the NATO summit to be held in Ankara. The head of state announced this during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
