Hungary has calculated the cost of Orbán's rule to the country – Bloomberg
Due to high levels of corruption over the past 16 years of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s uninterrupted rule, Hungary may have lost approximately 60 trillion forints, or $194 billion. The situation in the country has worsened due to the authorities’ unwillingness to combat wrongdoing.
This was stated by Ferenc Biro, head of Hungary’s Integrity Office. The official recalled how in 2024, then-Minister of Justice Bence Tuzson and former Minister for European Union Affairs János Boka demanded that he halt investigations being conducted by the anti-corruption agency.
Tuzson himself confirmed the meeting but denied any interference in the agency’s work. In 2025, after inspections of government communications spending began, Hungarian law enforcement conducted searches at the Integrity Office and at Biro’s home. The agency’s head emphasized that the raid was intended to intimidate him and force him to resign.
Bloomberg reports on this.
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced the results of a local media investigation into the March events related to the operation against Ukrainian cash collectors and Oschadbank property. According to him, former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán may have been personally involved in the decision-making process.
