New car prices: Russia ranks among top five most expensive countries
According to Avtostat, in 2024 the average price of a new passenger car in Russia reached 3.5 million rubles (about $45,000), placing the country among the top five in the world for the highest car prices. This rise is attributed to the strengthening of the ruble and delivery challenges.
The study shows that only Canada ($62,000), the United Kingdom ($61,000), the USA ($52,000), and Israel ($50,000) have higher average new car prices than Russia. Over the past four years, the average price of new vehicles in Russia has increased by 46%. For comparison, Germany’s average stands at $40,000, Australia’s at $35,000, and India’s at just $11,000.
This price increase may affect Russia’s new car market by reducing demand or pushing buyers towards alternatives, such as the used car market.
