Video: Romania has declared a state of emergency following a drone explosion
On the morning of June 5, a powerful explosion occurred in the Romanian port of Constanța following the detonation of a maritime drone. In response to the incident, authorities implemented emergency security measures and declared the highest alert level in the area of one of the Black Sea’s largest ports.
According to Romanian media reports, the object was detected around 5:00 a.m. It was located near the Oil Terminal and the base of the Romanian Agency for the Safety of Life at Sea.
After the suspicious boat was spotted, the area around the oil terminal was immediately cordoned off by police, gendarmerie, and rescue teams. Access by unauthorized persons was completely blocked. Romanian media speculate that the vessel may have been carrying dozens of kilograms of explosives.
There is currently no official confirmation of the drone’s ownership; experts are determining its origin. Meanwhile, local media, citing preliminary analysis data, note that the drone may be of Ukrainian origin. It also remains unknown how exactly the drone was able to bypass defense systems unimpeded and enter the port’s waters directly.
Due to the emergency nature of the situation, the incident was immediately reported to the Prime Minister of Romania and the country’s president was informed. In the near future, the Romanian Ministry of the Interior will hold a special briefing to announce the initial official findings of the investigation.
