An intermediary in the case of the attempted assassination of Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate, has been exposed

On June 23, law enforcement officials uncovered a middleman who, according to the investigation, was seeking someone to carry out the murder of a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and the deputy head of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War. Investigative efforts are ongoing to identify all those involved in the crime.

According to the investigation, the murder of the official may have been planned under the supervision of representatives of the Russian Federation. Law enforcement officials have identified the role of a 34-year-old former military serviceman who acted as an intermediary between the client and the potential perpetrator of the crime.

Investigators believe that in early 2026, an as-yet-unidentified individual approached the suspect. This person offered him the opportunity to find someone willing to kill a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR). The client promised $100,000 for carrying out the crime.

The suspect then began searching for a perpetrator. In Kyiv, he met with an acquaintance, asked him to join the assassination plot, and provided the client’s contact information for direct communication.

From February through June 1, 2026, the intermediary systematically incited him to commit the murder through persuasion.

The intermediary was detained on June 18. He was notified that he was suspected of incitement to prepare an intentional murder for financial gain, on commission, and by prior conspiracy among a group of individuals (Part 1 of Article 14, Part 4 of Article 27, and subparagraphs 6, 11, and 12 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

On June 19, the court ordered his pretrial detention.

As the Office of the Prosecutor General noted, the hired hitman, acting out of financial gain and in prior conspiracy with others, began preparing for the crime. It was established that the client transferred $22,000 as an advance payment to his cryptocurrency wallet to finance the preparatory activities.

The organizers also provided the perpetrators with detailed information about the victim, including his place of residence, daily routine, and lifestyle, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General.
