Zelenskyy is ready to meet with Putin in order to end the war sooner
Ukraine is currently awaiting the arrival of an official negotiating delegation from the United States, but this process is being delayed and is taking too long. This statement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a joint meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
The head of state candidly noted that due to the escalation of the geopolitical situation in the world, Ukraine has temporarily lost its primary focus of attention from key partners. According to Zelenskyy, Iran has now become the number one issue on the U.S. international agenda, while the Ukrainian case has taken a back seat. He noted with regret that Ukraine is forced to remain in a sort of “queue of these wars.”
The President emphasized that it is the U.S. that possesses the greatest leverage and is best positioned to compel Russian President Vladimir Putin to genuinely end the aggression. At the same time, the ideal and most powerful diplomatic approach for Ukraine is to simultaneously involve both Washington and European leaders in the negotiation process, since the hostilities are unfolding directly on the European continent.
Despite the desire to form a strong international alliance, Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the state’s top priority remains ending the bloodshed as quickly as possible, and there are no alternatives here. With this in mind, Kyiv is ready to support any effective format for a settlement. The head of state openly declared his personal readiness to engage in direct negotiations with Putin to end this war, rather than wait for the international community to resolve all other conflicts before finally turning its attention to Ukraine.
