BMW announced that the iX3 50L has a range of 640 miles on a single charge in China
BMW announced that the iX3 50L electric crossover, designed for the Chinese market, traveled 640 miles on a single battery charge during a trip from the company’s plant in Shenyang to its research and development center in Beijing. Upon arrival, the car’s battery had 5% charge remaining, according to the manufacturer.
For the trip, BMW mapped out a special route, approximately 440 miles longer than the direct distance between Shenyang and Beijing. The company chose a different route to test how far the iX3 50L could travel without recharging.

According to InsideEVs, the result exceeded the iX3 50L’s claimed range under the Chinese CLTC cycle, which is 571 miles. However, this trip was not a standardized test. The publication notes that data on the car’s speed is unavailable and suggests that the result may have been influenced by the planned route, traffic, weather, and terrain.
In June, BMW also conducted a test of the iX3 in China: the car traveled approximately 500 miles around Qinghai Lake and completed the route with 2% battery charge remaining. The iX3 50L version is equipped with a 108.7 kWh battery and a Gen6 electric powertrain. According to BMW, the new powertrain is designed to be up to 20% more efficient than the previous generation.
