Lucid Gravity can charge a Tesla Model 3 via the RangeXchange system

The Lucid Gravity electric crossover demonstrated the ability to charge a Tesla Model 3 using RangeXchange, a charging system for other electric vehicles. To do this, the Gravity uses a standard NACS port, which is also used in Tesla vehicles, according to InsideEVs.

A special cable and adapter, stored in the Gravity’s trunk, are required for the connection. One end of the cable is plugged into the Lucid’s charging port, after which the indicators begin to flash blue and a message appears on the screen indicating that RangeXchange is ready. The driver must also set a reserve charge level below which the Lucid’s battery charge will not drop.

Once connected to another electric vehicle, power transfer begins only after pressing the “Start Sharing” button on the Gravity display. The system can charge another vehicle with up to 40 amps at 240 volts. During testing, Kyle Conner from Out of Spec recorded a voltage of 237 volts.

According to InsideEVs, one hour of charging from a 240-volt outlet can add about 30 miles of range to a Tesla Model 3. Therefore, this method is not a full-fledged alternative to a charging station, but it can be useful when you need to get home or to a DC fast-charging station.
