Firestone unveils Destination LE4 tires for crossovers and pickups
Firestone has unveiled new Destination LE4 all-season tires designed for crossovers, SUVs, and light pickups. The model succeeds the Destination LE3, which the manufacturer calls its best-selling all-season highway tire. The Destination LE4 will be available in 65 sizes for wheels ranging from 15 to 22 inches in diameter.
Design changes
As Motor1 reports, engineers optimized the width of the tread ribs and increased the initial tread depth in the new model. According to Firestone, these solutions are intended to extend tire life. The Destination LE4 also received thinner three-dimensional sipes, which, according to the manufacturer, improve performance on wet surfaces and in light snow conditions.
The casing construction uses high-strength cord layers and steel cords. Firestone also reported greater uniformity of rubber compound components, which, according to the company, is intended to improve tread wear resistance and grip.

Claimed test results
According to Firestone's internal tests, the Destination LE4 is expected to last 16% longer than the previous LE3 model. The company also claims that the new product outlasts the General Grabber H/T by 9% and the BFGoodrich Advantage Control HT by 43%.
The manufacturer's own tests showed a 2.6%, or 2-foot, reduction in dry braking distance compared with the Destination LE3. Firestone says the LE4 stopped a vehicle 8 feet earlier than the Toyo Open Country H/T II on both wet and dry surfaces. Compared with the BFGoodrich Advantage Control HT, the difference was 2 feet on dry roads and 4 feet on wet roads.
Among the vehicles for which the new tires may be suitable, Firestone lists the Mazda CX-5, Ford F-150, Chevrolet Trailblazer, and Nissan Armada.
