Ford is recalling nearly 420,000 SUVs due to a seatbelt defect
The American automaker Ford Motor Company has announced a recall of 419,967 vehicles in the United States due to a potential seatbelt defect that could increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
The recall affects select 2018–2022 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs.
According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue is related to the pretensioner mechanism in the driver’s and front passenger’s seatbelts. Due to the defect, the belt may jam and fail to retract or extend properly.
Experts note that this defect could reduce the effectiveness of the safety system and increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
As part of the recall, dealerships will inspect the seatbelt mechanisms and replace defective parts free of charge if necessary.
