Jeep unveils JL-2A retro package for Wrangler Rubicon

Jeep has unveiled the JL-2A package for the 2027 model-year Wrangler, styled after the 1945 civilian Willys CJ-2A. The package is based on the Wrangler Rubicon version, will cost $4,995, and orders are planned to open in October. According to Motor1, Jeep estimates that the JL-2A will cost only $115 more than a comparably equipped Wrangler Rubicon.

Rubicon hardware unchanged

The JL-2A retains the Rubicon's off-road equipment: electronic locking front and rear differentials, an electronic sway bar disconnect system, and the Rock-Trac HD 4x4 four-wheel-drive system. The vehicle will be equipped with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 gasoline engine producing 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.

Standard equipment will also include the Convenience Group package with remote engine start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a universal garage door opener. The vehicle will receive a TrailCam front camera with an integrated washer nozzle. The JL-2A package will be offered only with the gasoline engine.

Colors and trim honoring the CJ-2A

On the outside, the Wrangler JL-2A will stand out with 17-inch Joose-colored retro-style wheels, standard 33-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires, body-color wheel arch flares, and a three-piece hardtop. Orange tow hooks will be fitted at the front and rear, while the grille will feature Dark Metallic Grey trim.

The two-door version will be offered in the sand-beige Gobi color, inspired by the Harvest Tan shade of the original CJ-2A. The four-door variant will receive the '41 green color. The palette will also include Bright White, Sting Gray, Ghost, and Joose.

The interior will use Nappa Heritage Tan leather, Bison Brown door panels, Desert Orange decorative stitching, and a satin chrome gearshift medallion bearing the Willys-Overland name. A plaque recreating the design of the CJ-2A instrument-panel information plate, with images of a farm and a factory, will be placed on the rear tailgate. Jeep brand CEO Brendan Cote said that the JL-2A brings the CJ-2A story full circle.
