Tesla unveils Semi for Europe with a claimed range of about 550 km

Tesla unveiled the European version of its Semi electric truck at the IAA Transportation 2026 exhibition in Hanover, Germany. The company plans to begin the first deliveries to customers in Europe next year, InsideEVs reports. Tesla will initially focus on the base Standard Range version.

Range and charging

According to Tesla, the European Semi Standard Range will be able to travel about 550 km on a single charge. Its claimed energy consumption is 1 kWh per kilometer. These figures are calculated for a gross combination weight of 40 tonnes, a constant speed of 80 km/h, and an air temperature of 20°C.

The company notes that actual energy consumption will be affected by tire selection, the aerodynamic roof fairing, and the semi-trailer configuration. In the United States, the Semi Standard Range is claimed to have a range of 325 miles and consumption of 1.7 kWh per mile. According to InsideEVs estimates, the U.S. and European versions likely have the same 548 kWh battery and three electric motors on two rear axles.

The truck will be able to charge at up to 800 kW. Tesla says that with a Megacharger, the battery will be able to charge to 60% in 30 minutes. For warehouse sites, the company also offers a Basecharger with output of up to 120 kW; using this charging method, the battery can charge to 60% in about four hours.

Competition with Volvo

One of the Tesla Semi's competitors in Europe will be the Volvo FH Electric. The FH Aero Electric Extended Range version is equipped with a 725 kWh battery and has a claimed range of up to 700 km. It can accept charging at up to 700 kW through an MCS station.

At the same time, the payload of this Volvo version in Germany is 22 tonnes at a maximum permissible gross weight of 42 tonnes — about five tonnes less than the Tesla Semi Standard Range. Volvo also offers a short-distance modification with a payload of 25 tonnes and a range of up to 470 km.

The base Tesla Semi version is available only in a 6x4 configuration, while Volvo offers the FH Electric in 4x2, 6x4, and 8x4 versions. Tesla also says the central position of the driver's seat improves visibility. The truck has heated and ventilated seats, acoustic glass, and sound-insulating materials. The company has not yet disclosed sales of the Tesla Semi Long Range version in Europe or the price of the Standard Range.
