The 2027 Rivian R1S features captain's chairs in the second row
American electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has updated its 2027 model year R1S and R1T models. The R1S electric SUV is now available for the first time with second-row captain’s chairs, creating a six-seat interior configuration with a center aisle, according to Motor1.
The new second-row seats feature heating, armrests that fold flush with the seat, and retractable cup holders. They can be folded flat to increase cargo space. The seven-seat configuration will remain available for the R1S Premium, as well as for the Performance and Quad versions with the Black Mountain Signature interior.
Rivian has also simplified the trim levels for the R1S and R1T. Instead of the Dual and Tri versions, buyers will be offered the Premium, Performance, and Quad trims. The base Premium model delivers 533 k. s. of power and 610 pound-feet of torque. An optional $5,000 upgrade boosts performance to 655 k. s. and 829 pound-feet and reduces the 0-60 mph acceleration time from 4.5 to 3.4 seconds.

The Performance version delivers 850 k. s. and 1,103 pound-feet of torque and accelerates to 60 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds. The top-of-the-line Quad has 1,025 k. s. and 1,198 pound-feet; the claimed acceleration time is 2.5 seconds. The Premium range is 410 miles for the R1S and 420 miles for the R1T, while for the Performance it is 371 miles, and for the Quad, 374 miles.
For the Premium trim, the Ocean Coast and Black Mountain interior options are available, while the Performance and Quad trims offer Slate Sky Signature, Black Mountain Signature, and Ocean Coast Signature. For the R1T pickup, the manufacturer has also introduced 20-inch Adventure All-Season wheels with off-road tires and a new body color, Esker Silver.
The starting prices for the models remain unchanged from 2026. The R1T Premium will start at $79,990, and the R1S Premium at $83,990. The R1T Performance starts at $100,990, and the R1S Performance starts at $106,990. Prices for the R1T Quad and R1S Quad start at $115,990 and $121,990, respectively.
