Tesla has added V2L to the Model Y Premium in the U.S. and Puerto Rico
Tesla has added a vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature for the Model Y Premium electric crossover in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Owners of this version will be able to power external devices using electricity from the car’s high-voltage battery at up to 2.4 kW, according to InsideEVs.
To use this feature, you’ll need to purchase an Outlet Adapter for $80. The adapter connects to the portable charger that comes with all Tesla Model Y vehicles, which in turn connects to the car’s NACS port. The device has two 120-volt outlets and is capable of delivering a total current of up to 20 amps.
Tesla has not officially announced the availability of V2L in the Model Y Premium. However, the option to add the adapter has appeared in the model’s online configurator for the U.S. This feature is not yet available for Model Y vehicles sold in Canada and Europe.

Tesla previously introduced V2L in the Cybertruck, and later in the Model Y Performance and Model Y L. The base version of the Model Y, previously known as the Standard, does not have this option, nor do any versions of the Model 3. The Model Y does not have built-in power outlets and does not support vehicle-to-home (V2H), i.e., powering a home from the car.
By comparison, Hyundai has offered V2L with a power output of up to 3.6 kW in the Ioniq 5 on the U.S. market since the model’s debut in 2021. An adapter for connecting to the charging port is included with this electric vehicle.
