Toyota begins selling GR Kart in Japan for 385,000 yen

In Japan, Toyota Gazoo Racing began sales of the GR Kart on September 10, 2026, priced at 385,000 yen including tax, or approximately $2,500. According to Motor1, the model is intended for children, families, and novice drivers who want to try their hand at motorsport.

Kart specifications

The GR Kart is equipped with a 215-cubic-centimeter gasoline engine and weighs 83 kilograms. It is 182 centimeters long, 116 centimeters wide, and 67 centimeters high, with a wheelbase of 104 centimeters.

These dimensions make it possible to transport the kart without disassembly in Toyota Noah or Voxy minivans. The seat is adjustable for drivers between 1.34 and 1.86 meters tall. A companion app with basic advice on kart setup and operation is also available for beginners.

Sales and participation in a competition

The GR Kart is produced at the Gamagori GR Kart Workshop in Aichi Prefecture. Sales are organized through 36 karting tracks and seven GR Garage dealerships in Japan.

The kart is intended only for closed tracks and cannot be registered for use on public roads. Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman Akio Toyoda has said that he wants to make motorsport more accessible to more people, similar to baseball or football.

The GR Kart is planned to be used on December 12–13, 2026, during the weekend of the A1 City Grand Prix GOTSU 2026 urban competition in Japan. On the temporary city circuit, the kart is expected to use carbon-neutral fuel.
