Honda may launch Civic Type R HRC in Japan in 2027 — Motor1

In Japan, Honda may begin production of a special Civic Type R HRC version in 2027. According to Motor1, the Japanese publication Response links the future model to the updated FL5-generation Civic Type R and the concept presented at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

Motorsport components

The HRC designation stands for Honda Racing Corporation, the company division that runs its Formula 1, MotoGP and Super GT programs. According to Japanese media, the production version may receive components linked to Honda's motorsport developments, rather than only a styling package.

The Civic Type R HRC concept features an enlarged front air intake, dual air guides, an extended front splitter, larger rear wing endplates, a more substantial diffuser and an HRC-branded radiator. The show car was also fitted with an Akrapovič exhaust system.

Likely technical specifications

Rumors suggest that the HRC modification may receive retuned suspension, larger brakes, forged wheels and additional carbon-fiber elements. The publication also reports a possible weight reduction of approximately 50 pounds, or about 23 kilograms, compared with the standard model.

The current Civic Type R for the U.S. market is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 315 hp. Japanese reports suggest that the HRC's output may be increased to around 340 metric horsepower, or about 335 hp, through changes to the software, intake and exhaust systems.

The estimated price of the Civic Type R HRC in Japan is 7 million yen, while the standard Civic Type R costs about 6.18 million yen on the local market. Honda has not officially confirmed either the model's production or its technical specifications or price.
