Volvo to End Production of the Electric EX40 in the US After the 2027 Model Year
Motor1 reports that Volvo will end production of the electric EX40 crossover in the United States after the 2027 model year. The larger Volvo EX60 is expected to become the brand’s most affordable electric SUV on the US market.
EX60 as the entry-level electric model
A Volvo representative told Motor1 that the company evaluates buyers’ needs when shaping its model lineup and considers its range of electric SUVs to meet the demands of US drivers. According to him, the EX60 P6 will now become the entry-level model among Volvo’s electric SUVs in the United States.
The EX60’s starting recommended price is $59,795, including destination charges. This is $3,250 more than the price of the outgoing EX40, which is $56,545. Volvo noted that the EX60 offers more space and a longer driving range.

Range and the updated XC40
The EX40 was equipped with an 82 kWh battery. In the Single Motor Extended Range version, its range was up to 296 miles, while the all-wheel-drive Twin Motor version could travel up to 260 miles.
The new EX60 is claimed to have an estimated EPA range of up to 330 miles in the all-wheel-drive P10 version. The base version can travel up to 307 miles on a single charge.
Volvo will also launch the 2028 model-year XC40 with an updated design and a more efficient mild-hybrid powertrain. An electric version of this crossover is not expected in the near future. After EX40 production ends, buyers looking for a compact Volvo in the United States will be left with the mild-hybrid XC40, while the brand will no longer have a smaller electric SUV in its lineup.
