Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko congratulated the city’s rescue workers on Ukraine’s Civil Protection Workers’ Day and presented them with city awards. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Kyiv’s rescue workers have responded to over 46,000 calls and rescued more than 2,200 people.
The mayor thanked the State Emergency Service (SES) and the Kyiv City Rescue Service (KARS) for their work during the full-scale war and for dealing with the aftermath of Russian attacks.
“Today, on Ukraine’s Civil Protection Workers’ Day, I congratulated the rescue workers and presented the capital’s rescue workers with awards from the city. I thanked the rescue workers for every call and for every life saved. For the resilience and professionalism with which they carry out their mission. In total, since the start of the full-scale invasion, Kyiv rescuers from the State Emergency Service and KARS have carried out more than 46,000 call-outs. Of these, about 3,000 were call-outs to address the aftermath of enemy attacks. During this time, they have rescued more than 2,200 people,” wrote Vitali Klitschko.
During this period, about 3,000 call-outs were directly related to dealing with the aftermath of Russian attacks.
Vitali Klitschko noted that it was in Kyiv where the first municipal rescue service was established.
According to him, the “Kyiv Rescue Service” (KARS) has been working alongside the State Emergency Service (SES) for 22 years, assisting the capital’s residents.
In total, the Kyiv rescue team consists of more than 3,000 people. It includes employees of the State Emergency Service’s Kyiv garrison and KARS.
The mayor emphasized that for nearly five years, rescue workers have been operating around the clock, responding to the aftermath of shelling and carrying out urgent restoration work.
Separately, Vitali Klitschko spoke about strengthening the municipal rescue service.
“Last August, at my direction, a decision was made to expand the KARS service. A new emergency technical unit was created to ensure a faster response on the left bank of the capital, and it has been standing ready to rescue and assist Kyiv residents for several months now,” Vitali Klitschko emphasized.
The new KARS emergency response unit is intended to ensure a faster response to emergencies on the left bank of Kyiv.
