In Kyiv's preschools, all children aged 5–6 have begun learning English
All children aged 5–6 in Kyiv’s preschool education institutions have begun learning English as part of their preparation for school. Currently, 17,700 preschoolers are attending these classes.
To support the educational process in the capital’s municipal preschools, 236 full-time foreign language teacher positions were created, and 259 specialized classrooms were equipped, ensuring that every facility is provided with one.
Valentin Mondriyevsky, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, noted: “It is important to us that children have the opportunity to start learning English as early as kindergarten. This is not only additional knowledge but also preparation for further education and new opportunities for the child.”

Starting September 1, 2026, English language instruction became mandatory in Ukrainian kindergartens for children in older or mixed-age groups. To this end, teachers underwent professional development training. Deputy Minister of Education Anastasia Konovalova explained that the program will apply to children aged five to six, with 4.5 hours of instruction per week allocated for each group.
