Turuntsev, the rector of Hrinchenko University of Kyiv, is suspected of plagiarism and corruption
The Strategic Investigations Department in Kyiv has drawn up two administrative reports for a corruption-related offense against Oleksandr Turuntsev, acting head of the Boris Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University. The case materials have been forwarded to the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv.
A statement from law enforcement agencies was published by civic activist Oleksiy Ksenich. He noted that Oleksandr Turuntsev, who currently holds the highest position at Boris Grinchenko University, does not have an academic degree or a scholarly title. He has held this position for four years.
“We have reviewed a large body of documents regarding the university’s activities, and as a result, we are preparing additional statements—this time regarding criminal offenses, some of which appear to be serious crimes,” the post states.
As a reminder, 14 instances of academic plagiarism were discovered in the doctoral dissertation of Alla Shlapak, vice rector of the Boris Grinchenko University of Kyiv and a member of the Kyiv City Council.
Ghent University in Belgium has suspended postdoctoral fellow Nathan Kofnas pending a preliminary disciplinary investigation. Kofnas had previously publicly accused Cambridge University professor Jason Ardey of plagiarism.
Ihor Klymenko, former secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, has been accused of plagiarizing his doctoral dissertation, which he defended in 2019. According to an analysis by the service “Plagiarism and Fabrication in Scientific Works,” the thesis contained text matches on 51 of 414 pages—representing about 12% of the main text—as well as signs of fabricated results.
