The Kyiv City State Administration has prepared payments for certain categories of Kyiv residents ahead of Independence Day

In honor of Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24, Kyiv will provide a one-time, targeted cash assistance payment of 500–1,000 UAH to nearly 255,000 Kyiv residents, for a total of 146 million UAH.

The assistance will be provided to socially vulnerable Kyiv residents and internally displaced persons who are registered and actually reside in the capital.

Specifically, a one-time payment of 1,000 UAH will be provided to:
▪️people with Group I disabilities;
▪️children with disabilities;
▪️people caring for seriously ill children;
▪️orphans;
▪️Righteous Among the Nations from Babyn Yar;
▪️rehabilitated victims of repression and their families;
▪️veterans of combat operations in Afghanistan;
▪️parents and relatives of deceased conscripts.
In the amount of 700 UAH:
▪️other categories of people with disabilities;
▪️children of deceased breadwinners;
▪️family members of those killed during combat operations in Afghanistan.
In the amount of 500 UAH:
▪️individuals who are not eligible for a pension;
▪️caregivers for people with mental disorders;
▪️individuals who provide social care services on a non-professional basis;
▪️retirees who have not yet become eligible for a pension.

The Department of Social and Veterans’ Policy of the Kyiv City State Administration notes that individuals who are fully supported by the state are not eligible for this assistance.
If a Kyiv resident falls into several categories at once, they will receive a single payment—the highest amount available.

In Ukraine, people who have reached retirement age but have not accumulated sufficient insurance coverage to qualify for a pension may be eligible for temporary government assistance—a social pension. To receive it, they must meet a number of established conditions.

To receive pension benefits in Ukraine, simply reaching a certain age is not enough. The key factor is having an insurance record, which is often confused with total work experience. Let’s take a closer look at what this means, what requirements are in effect in Ukraine in 2025, and how to determine your insurance record.
