In the Kyiv region, firefighters have been battling a massive fire at an unregulated landfill for the second day in a row

In the village of Novi Petrivtsi in the Vyshhorod District of Kyiv Oblast, rescue workers have been battling a large-scale fire for the second day in a row; the fire broke out at an unauthorized landfill and spread to open terrain.

The State Emergency Service received a report of the fire on July 27. Units from Novi Petrivtsi, Dymer, and Vyshhorod were deployed to fight the blaze.

According to rescue workers, the fire engulfed the trash in separate pockets and spread to the forest floor. The fire has now been extinguished across 3 hectares of forest land, but firefighters are still working to put out the blaze at the 1.8-hectare landfill.

Nineteen firefighters and five State Emergency Service vehicles are working at the scene. Auxiliary equipment provided by local authorities has also been deployed to help extinguish the fire. The State Emergency Service has assured that the situation is under control.

More than 300,000 people have been evacuated in France and Spain due to massive wildfires that have engulfed regions of Southern Europe. In southwestern France, in the Gironde region, more than 220,000 residents have left their homes. The fire there has spread across approximately 32,700 hectares.

As a reminder, French passengers who purchased train tickets to the region around Bordeaux will be able to exchange or refund them free of charge. This decision was made due to the large-scale wildfires that have complicated the situation in the area.
