Nearly 3 million hryvnias were embezzled from the supply of food to schools and kindergartens in Kyiv
Five members of an organized group have been notified that they are suspected of embezzling public funds during the procurement of food products for educational institutions in the Desnyanskyi District of the capital.
According to the investigation, a businessman, in collusion with officials from the Desnianskyi District State Administration’s Department of Education, ensured that specific companies—which supplied products at inflated prices—won the tenders.
In 2024, the department signed contracts for the supply of chicken fillets and eggs worth over 20 million hryvnias. Law enforcement officials determined that under three of these contracts, the supplier was overpaid by nearly 3 million hryvnias.
Investigators also believe that the head of the winning company transferred $4,000 to other participants in the scheme in exchange for their assistance in securing the contracts.
Among the suspects is the head of the Education Department of the Desnianskyi District State Administration. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
