Severe weather left thousands of people in the Kyiv region without power
More than 40,000 homes in the Kyiv region are without power due to severe weather. Utility workers are working around the clock, but due to rain and strong winds, new damage to the power grid continues to be reported in the region.
People are urged to be careful outdoors and to stay away from downed power lines. DTEK reports that repair crews are working around the clock. Heavy rains and squalls have worsened the power supply situation in the Kyiv region. As of 6:00 p.m., over 40,000 homes remained without power. This was reported by DTEK Kyiv Regional Power Grids.
According to power company officials, the severe weather damaged power lines in several districts of the region. Some of the outages have already been resolved, but due to worsening weather and new power line breaks, work is continuing around the clock.
The company noted that emergency crews are working around the clock to restore power to people’s homes as quickly as possible. “The situation in the region’s power grid remains difficult. The storm continues to cause new damage to the grid,” DTEK reported.
Residents of the Kyiv region are urged to exercise extreme caution during severe weather. Above all, do not approach downed or sagging power lines, do not touch metal structures near them, and, if possible, avoid being outdoors during strong winds.
People are also asked to immediately notify emergency services or utility workers if they spot damaged power lines. Forecasters warn that the bad weather in the region may continue. Because of this, further emergency power outages are possible.
In Kyiv and the Kyiv region, severe weather has persisted for the third consecutive day—the region has been hit by heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail, and squalls.
