A petition calling for subway cars to be stationed in the subway during emergencies did not receive enough votes
A petition calling for Kyiv Metro cars to be parked in underground stations during air raid alerts did not receive the required number of signatures for consideration by the Kyiv City Council.
The document, submitted on June 4, had gathered 1,600 signatures as of August 3, out of the required 6,000. The author proposed leaving trains at underground stations overnight to provide more seating and increase comfort for people using the metro as a shelter.
Earlier, Kyiv City Council member Andriy Vitrenko put forward a similar initiative, calling on city authorities to reinstate the practice of bringing trains into stations during air raid alerts.

In Kyiv, as a result of Russia’s nighttime attack on August 1, the exits from the underground passage at the “Virlytsia” metro station were damaged. The stained-glass windows were cracked, and parts of the polycarbonate roofing were torn and ripped off. Despite the damage, the station is operating as usual.
The Kyiv City State Administration denied social media reports claiming that people were allegedly barred from entering the capital’s metro system during the nighttime attack on July 30.
