The "Kyivska Rus" movie theater was damaged during the attack on Kyiv
During a massive Russian attack on Kyiv on the night of July 19, one of the capital’s most famous movie theaters—"Kyivska Rus"—was damaged. According to preliminary reports, a fire broke out in the building following the shelling.
The attack also damaged residential buildings, a dormitory, the Lukyanivska metro station, office buildings, and other civilian infrastructure facilities.
The “Kyivska Rus” movie theater opened on December 17, 1982. For decades, it was one of the largest movie theaters in Ukraine, and its main auditorium could seat nearly 2,000 people. After its renovation, the building became a multifunctional cultural space that hosted international film festivals, movie premieres, concerts, exhibitions, and other artistic events.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, cultural sites have repeatedly been targeted or damaged by shelling. The latest strike on “Kyivska Rus” was yet another example of the destruction of the capital’s cultural infrastructure.
On the night of July 19, Russian troops launched a ballistic missile strike on Kyiv. One person was killed and eight others were injured as a result of the attack. Damage and fires were reported in five districts of the capital.
Throughout the day on July 17, Russian forces launched strikes on Kharkiv and 29 other settlements in the Kharkiv region. Two people were killed and 18 others were injured as a result of the shelling; among the victims were five children.
Throughout the day on July 17, the Chernihiv region came under attack from enemy drones. Fires broke out in several districts at once, but Ukrainian rescue workers have already extinguished them.
