In Kyiv, law enforcement officials charged a member of the Alchevsk City Council—who belongs to the banned “Party of Regions”—with high treason. According to the investigation, after the occupation of parts of the Luhansk region began, she defected to the Russian Federation and collaborated with the illegal authorities.
Investigators established that in 2014, the woman—who at the time headed the Department of Education and had sworn an oath of allegiance to Ukraine—voluntarily began working for the occupiers. She assumed the position of the so-called “Deputy Head of the Alchevsk City Administration of the LNR,” where she organized the work of the occupying structures, relayed instructions, and helped create the appearance of legitimacy for the illegal authorities.
After several years of working in the occupation administration, the suspect subsequently moved to Kyiv, where she was exposed by law enforcement officials.
She also participated in meetings with representatives of the occupation administration, the “Prizrak” illegal armed group, and delegations from the Russian Federation; engaged in ideological work with young people; and promoted the issuance of “LNR passports.” From 2017 to 2021, she worked as an “advisor to the head of the Alchevsk LNR administration,” interacting with illegal educational institutions.
In 2021, due to a conflict with the occupying authorities, she moved to territory controlled by Ukraine, and the following year she began working at one of the social service centers in Kyiv.
During searches of her home and workplace, computer equipment and a cell phone were seized. This past summer, law enforcement officers detained her in the capital pursuant to Article 615 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
