Traffic on the Paton Bridge will be partially restricted until May 14

UA NEWS 11 May 2026 12:20
Traffic on the Paton Bridge will be partially restricted until May 14

In the capital, the first lane of traffic on the O. E. Paton Bridge has been partially closed in the direction from the left bank to the right bank of the Dnipro River.

This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.

The restriction was introduced due to the need to carry out urgent work to repair a structural defect that was discovered.

During a routine technical inspection, specialists identified damage to the closed-type expansion joint of the concrete slabs.

The prompt intervention by road services is aimed at preventing further deterioration of the bridge deck and avoiding the formation of sinkholes.

Representatives of the Kyiv City State Administration note that the identified problem does not threaten the integrity of the structure.

According to experts’ preliminary assessment, “the defect is localized and does not affect the overall technical condition of the bridge.”

Despite the absence of a major threat, the damage requires immediate attention to ensure road safety.

According to the plan, repair crews are expected to complete all restoration work on the section by approximately May 14.

It is worth noting that the condition of this bridge is under special monitoring by city authorities and technical services.

Following a meeting held in early March 2026, experts confirmed that the structure remains safe for continued use.

Currently, restrictions are in place on the bridge for heavy-duty vehicles, which helps maintain the structural integrity of the bridge.

However, experts emphasize the importance of conducting a full-scale reconstruction of this architectural landmark of local significance.

The last large-scale inspection of the bridge’s structures was conducted in 2025 by specialists from the V. M. Shimanovsky Institute.

Their findings unequivocally confirmed the need for restoration work to preserve the historic structure.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko has repeatedly emphasized that restoration is a complex process due to the monument’s status. Currently, preparations for the necessary documentation are underway, and optimal engineering solutions are being sought for the future renovation.
