On the morning of August 19, a fatal traffic accident occurred in the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv. Ukrainian Interior Minister Ivan Vyhovskyi released the first video from the scene of the accident.
“About an hour ago in the Solomyanskiy district of Kyiv, a car plowed into a bus stop where people were waiting at the time. According to preliminary reports, the driver had been speeding in the public transit lane and, while making a sudden lane change, crashed into a route bus,” Vygivsky confirmed.
He also specified that two people are currently known to have died, and four others were injured. According to the minister, one of them is in critical condition.
The Minister of Internal Affairs emphasized that he had already ordered all necessary Kyiv police units to be involved in the investigation.
In addition, he added that the 23-year-old driver has already been detained.
“In the near future, parliament is set to consider a bill to increase penalties for habitual speeding. We hope that Ukraine’s members of parliament will support this bill, as well as other initiatives aimed at comprehensively improving road safety,” Vygivsky noted.
