The court imposed a pretrial restriction on a police officer in the Kyiv shooting case
The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv has imposed a preventive measure on patrol officer Anna Dudina, who is implicated in the shooting case in the Holosiivskyi district of the capital. She was remanded in custody with the possibility of bail, and was arrested right in the courtroom.
A court in Kyiv ruled to remand patrol officer Anna Dudina in custody as part of the investigation into the shooting incident in the Holosiivskyi district, which had previously sparked widespread public outcry. The pretrial detention order is set to remain in effect until June 18, though the court left open the option of bail.
The amount in question is 266,000 hryvnias, which the defense can pay to have the pretrial measure changed. However, at the time the decision was announced, Dudina was taken into custody directly in the courtroom. Details of the case, including the circumstances of the shooting and the actions of the police crew at the scene, are currently being examined as part of the pre-trial investigation. Law enforcement officials previously reported that the incident occurred during a call in a residential area, where the situation quickly escalated and ended in tragedy.
Separately, the investigation is reviewing the actions of all those involved in the events, including the patrol officers who arrived at the scene first, and is assessing whether response protocols were followed in the face of an armed threat.
Additionally, a court in Kyiv remanded a patrol officer into custody who is suspected of professional negligence during the shooting in the Holosiivskyi district. This refers to the officer who, along with his partner, was the first to arrive at the scene. Investigators believe the crew did not act appropriately at the critical moment.
The incident occurred on April 18 in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv. According to the investigation, a 58-year-old man opened fire on people following a domestic dispute. He initially fired shots inside the building, then set the apartment on fire and went out onto the street with a weapon.
He then made his way to the “Velmart” store, where he took hostages and killed another person. After negotiations that lasted about 40 minutes, special forces stormed the building and neutralized the attacker. Seven people were killed in the shooting. Another 14 were injured, including a child.
Separately, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that two police officers were on the scene—a 27-year-old patrol officer and a 44-year-old female officer. According to him, investigators are currently conducting a detailed review of their actions during the incident.
